Normal symptoms

You might not have any symptoms but if you do, it is likely they will be:

  • Vaginal or penile discharge
  • Pain on passing urine
  • Pain during sex
  • Bleeding

How to get tested?

We understand that this is a very private matter and you might feel uncomfortable going to your GP, so...

  • Order a home test kit, go to a sexual health clinic or go to your GP. You can get a free home test kit from the online Sexual Health Clinic
  • For women: The test will usually entail a vaginal swab
  • For men usually a urine sample

Treatment

Antibiotic treatments: a course of antibiotics is usually needed and effective in treating most STI's. The easiest way to prevent contracting STIs are to use barrier contraception (e.g. condoms or the diaphragm).

If you have an STI you should tell your sexual partner(s) from the past 6 months so that they too can get tested. If you are sexually active and changing partners, test yourself at least every 6 months.

Don’t be embarrassed! STIs are very common, easily tested for and easily treated 🥰
